In order to keep your shoes in good condition, the following general leather care is recommended :

- Always store your shoes away from sunlight and heat,
- Protect your leather shoes from rain, moisture and humidity
- Store your shoes in their dedicated cotton shoe bag and shoe box
- Avoid contact with abrasive surfaces, oils, alcohol and solvents.

Should your shoes sustain damage we recommend you consult a leather care professional or reputable cobbler.

We've put together some recommendations for shoe care. Please note, the customer is responsible for their own shoe care and the outcome.

NAPPA CARE

Nappa leather is smooth, durable and will soften and wrinkle with age, perfectly natural. To remove surface dirt use a clean, dry, soft cloth. We recommend using a leather conditioner to maintain the softness of the leather.

SUEDE CARE

We just love suede at MadCharlotte, that soft velvety material we can't stop caressing. It is natural for color variations to appear due to the rub of the leather. We suggest to use a specific waterproofing spray to help protect the suede from light water contact. If you have scuff marks or light dirt unify the fabric by using a soft suede brush.

SATIN CARE

Satin, one of the most royal and delicate of fabrics. Avoid contact with sharp or abrasive objects or rough surfaces that may tear the satin. Contact with liquid may cause satin to stain and therefore it is important to keep your shoes safe from rain, alcohol, oil and other liquids. You can gently remove surface dirt by using a clean, dry, soft cloth.

PATENT CARE

Patent leather has a varnish finish giving it a glossy surface. Please avoid contact with alcohol or any type of solvent which will damage the high shine finish.

VELVET CARE

The soft touch of velvet. You can gently remove surface dirt by using a clean, dry, soft cloth. Do not apply any leather care products to your velvet shoes.

OUTER SOLE CARE

The soles of your MadCharlotte shoes are made from smooth and delicate leather and will therefore mark upon first wear. This is not a manufacturing defect. It is a natural process and part of the normal wear of the shoes. Careful in the rain, as leather is not water resistant and wet surfaces may alter the structure of the soles. The leather soles are somewhat slippery at first, which fades once wearing them on concrete surfaces. You can also use anti-slip pads on the soles for further protection and we recommend that be done by a reputable cobbler.

INNER LINING CARE

The lining of your MadCharlotte shoes is made from smooth leather. You can gently remove surface dirt and impurities on the lining of your shoes by wiping away using a clean damp cloth.

HEEL TIPS CARE

Please don't be tempted to wear down the heel tips. It is recommended to change the heel tips once they start to wear down with a reputable cobbler. If not, you risk having an unstable and ruined heel.

BREAKING-IN LEATHER SHOES

It’s normal for new and unworn leather shoes to feel somewhat tight and firm when worn for the first time. With wear, we break-in the shoes by which the leather stretches in width moulding to the shape of our foot.

We recommend breaking-in your new shoes by wearing them in around your home.  How long that takes really depends on the style of shoe with your foot shape and sensitivity of your skin. On average to break-in leather shoes it's 3 to 4 wears.

ADVANTAGE OF WEARING LEATHER SHOES

A good quality leather will mould and adapt to your feet. Leather footwear have great resistance and with the correct care should last for many years. Unlike synthetics, rubber, PVC and cotton, leather allows your feet to breathe allowing transpiration to evaporate therefore avoiding any unpleasant odours and bacterial growth.
